ATM Safety

Be alert when approaching the ATM.
Evaluate the ATM's safety. If you feel the lighting is poor or the machine is too secluded, find and use another machine.
Enter an indoor card access ATM alone.
If you are using an indoor ATM which requires access using your card, make sure no one enters with you.
Make sure you have your card ready. Avoid having to search through your purse or wallet while standing at the ATM.
Ensure that the person behind you can't see you enter your PIN or any other transaction details.
Place you card and cash in your wallet immediately. Do not stand at the ATM counting your cash.
Cancel your transaction if you feel suspicious.
If anything raises your suspicions, trust your instinct and cancel your transaction immediately. Contact you financial institution as soon as possible to let them know about it.
Practise car safety as well. When you get out of the car, make sure you lock all windows and doors, and do the same when getting back into the car after drawing cash.
Keep your receipt.
You can check it against your monthly statements and is a good way you can guard against fraud.
Report lost/stolen cards. In the event of losing your ATM or credit card, contact your financial institute immediately to report it.
Card Safety

Prevent card damage. Keep your card in a safe place where it can't be bent or scratched
Memorise your pin.
Try to memorise your PIN number. If you can’t, write it down and store it in a separate location from where you keep your wallet or card.
Choose a safe PIN.
When choosing a PIN try not to use numbers that can be linked to you like your date of birth or telephone number.
Keep emergency phone numbers on you.
Make sure you know all emergency telephone numbers of your financial institute in case you lose your card.
